The Government of St.Kitts and Nevis grants five types of citizenship to applicants…

  1. Citizenship by descent
  2. Citizenshp by marriage
  3. Citizenship by Residence
  4. Citizenship by Registration
  5. Citizenship by Investment

A Certificate of Citizenship is an identity document issued to an individual who has received their citizenship from St. Kitts and Nevis

1. Citizenship by Investment

The Citizen by Investment Programme within the Federation requires USD 250,000 in Sustainable island state fund or USD 325,000 purchase of real estate within SKN

2. Citizenship by Residence

To apply for citizenship by residence it is required that you live within the Federation for 14 years legally as resident.

3. Citizenship by Registration

When applying for Citizenship by Registration this should be done for a minor 18 years or under parents who became citizens by marriage, residence or investment. a foreign national married to a St. Kitts and Nevis citizen can apply for citizenship by registration, provided certain legal and residency conditions are met.

4. Citizenship by Descent

Citizenship by Descent is acquired if the parents or grandparents of the applicant were born in the Federation St. Kitts and Nevis. Please see official link for the Citizen by descent Form

5. Citizenship by marriage

Citizenship by marriage is any person who is married to a citizen of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis for at least 3 years. The marriage must be legally recognized in St. Kitts and Nevis. The processing time for citizenship by marriage in St. Kitts and Nevis is generally between 6 and 12 months. Spouses must pass ministry of national security screening and provide a clean police record.

The acquisition of citizenship in St. Kitts and Nevis through marriage is governed by the Citizenship Act, Cap. 1.05 and its subsequent amendments.

Renunciation

St.Kitts and Nevis permits renouncing St. Kitts & Nevis citizenship by declaration. A certificate of renunciation will be issued upon approval. You must prove you have another nationality or intend to acquire foreign citizenship within 12 months to prevent statelessness.The Fee is ECD 650.-

Passport

It is necessary to first apply for a citizenship certificate; normally this would be citizenship by descent or citizenship by marriage. This process can take up to six (6) months. Having received your certificate of citizenship, you would then be eligible to apply for a passport of St. Kitts and Nevis.
